Hi. I’m Jacob Lloyd. I’m an engineer and the person behind this site.

My day job is large-scale construction and engineering for the federal government. I’ve held approval authority over billion-dollar construction portfolios, negotiated international construction agreements, and led audit teams inside some of the most heavily regulated industrial facilities there are. The work has taken me across the U.S., Japan, Guam, and Australia, and it’s kept me living on the other side of the Pacific for a while now. I have an MBA and a mechanical engineering degree, both from the University of Wyoming.

None of that has anything to do with lasers.

This site started as a hobby, and it’s stayed one on purpose. I bought a laser cutter, couldn’t find decent project write-ups anywhere, so I made my own and put them online — settings, process, files, everything you’d need to duplicate the project yourself. It’s actually a fork of a YouTube channel that never took off, and honestly, that failure taught me something worth keeping: the moment something becomes work, it loses its fun. So there’s no upload schedule here and no algorithm to feed. A sponsor can pay for a build; they don’t get to write it. The format hasn’t changed. The posting pace has, because life kept handing me jobs overseas, but the projects that are here still work: the settings that cut clean acrylic in 2024 cut clean acrylic today.

These days what I really enjoy is working with LLMs — and tech in general. That’s where most of the new material comes from.

The AI section

My hobby drifted from lasers to running LLMs on my own hardware. Same approach: real settings, real gotchas, written up so you can actually do it. The AI section covers local model hosting, agent stacks, and the tools I built to make it all work — including OpenClaw, the local AI agent system that maintains this site from a mini PC in my house.

I also founded the Open Model Licensing Association (OMLA), a non-profit that builds licensing infrastructure for open-weight AI models. The short version: if someone’s model is making money, the people who made it should share in that. It’s a separate project with its own site at omla-ai.org.

The site itself

LaserLloyd.com is static HTML rebuilt from Markdown by a small Python generator. It’s hosted on DreamHost, maintained by OpenClaw agents, and deployed through a gated pipeline with backups. No WordPress, no CMS, no dependencies I don’t control. The rebuild story is in WordPress to static, with Claude Code, and how the agents publish safely has the details.
